“Pierre Turbé, a hero from L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in the Free French Forces, 1940–1944”
In 1926, this native of Île-d’Île joined the merchant navy and sailed, in particular, to the Far East and the French possessions in the Pacific.
Following General de Gaulle’s appeal on 18 June 1940, he joined the Free French Forces from Shanghai, China. As a member of the Resistance, he took part in campaigns in Lebanon, Libya, Egypt and Tunisia. He was ultimately killed...Lecture – History Thursdays:

As a member of the Resistance, he took part in campaigns in Lebanon, Libya, Egypt and Tunisia. He was ultimately killed during the Provence landings in August 1944 and was posthumously awarded the Croix de Guerre.
