Lecture – History Thursdays:
“The story of an island fire station put to the test by fire”
In June 1953, twenty-two volunteers stepped forward to serve the people of the island and formed the first fire brigade on the Île d’Yeu. As early as 2 November 1953, they were called into action during the fire at the bell tower of Saint-Sauveur Church.
This event marked the beginning of the history of this extraordinary fire station, which has been in operation for 73 years.
