“Vauban: Works of Stone and Pen”
Vauban (1633–1707) served Louis XIV, his subjects and the nation for over half a century. He successfully commanded more than 50 sieges, built nine strongholds from scratch and redesigned 160 others, thereby sealing the country’s land and sea borders with an iron ring. Vauban: a statesman of integrity, dedicated to the public good, a tireless worker, a humanist and a visionary. A genius?
