Enjoy the unique experience of the ‘Marche du Temps Profond’ on the Côte Sauvage of Île d’Yeu: a guided walk that takes you through 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history over 4.6 km

You’ll know Port de la Meule for its charm and crystal-clear waters. But have you ever listened to the story told by its cliffs?

Join us for a ‘Marche du Temps Profond’ (Deep Time Walk): a new kind of walk, where walking becomes a spectacular journey through the Earth’s 4.6 billion-year history.
The concept is simple yet mind-boggling: we start at the moment the Earth came into being, and every metre we cover represents one million years. 4.6 km later, we arrive at the present day. Throughout this walk, we’ll take the time to explore each major event, keeping to this time-distance scale:

    - The Origins: The formation of our planet and the Great Meteorite Bombardment.

    - The spark: The appearance of water, the first cells and the slow dance of evolution.

    - The explosion of life: The emergence of complex life, the first plants, the reign of the dinosaurs.

    - The blink of an eye: The arrival of humanity, which accounts for just the very last few centimetres of our journey.

    Why take part?
More than just a walk, it’s an immersive experience and a captivating open-air narrative. The island’s ancient granite, the sea breeze and the crashing waves provide the most beautiful of backdrops for telling the grand story of life. You’ll never look at nature (or your place within it) in the same way again.
