Cultural life and local festivals

An island that likes to have fun

Lots of festivals and events take place throughout the year, such as the festival of flowers, the "Trail of L'île d’Yeu" and the Swing festival.

The high points of cultural life, these events bring everyone and everything together, with young and old relaxing and being creative, leaving you with beautiful memories to bring back from your holidays.

POPULAR FESTIVALS

Flower festival

By far, the favourite of the islanders is this wonderful splash of inventiveness, humour and good fun! A small carnival, on a human scale, it takes place every two years.

The floats, completely covered in natural flowers, take months to imagine and build in the greatest secrecy, finally unveiled on Whit Sunday, day of the event.

Tip - book your stay well in advance!

La Meule in party mood

Sitting down on the quay of the little fishing port of La Meule to share a meal and listen to sea shanties has become a tradition.

More than a popular party, La Meule en fête is a moment of shared good cheer and conviviality!

The bal des ratas

The cold and damp of January are no match for this feast, with islanders and visitors alike ready to brave the rough sea!

A slap-up meal with entertainment, it's an opportunity for everyone to warm up with the typical dish of the island "le rata," a heart-warming pork and potato dish to a background of raucous sea shanties!

MUSIC AND FESTIVALS

Summer festivals

Popular music with the festival Viens dans mon île, lyrical music with the Festival Escales lyriques, jazz music with the festival Swing à Yeu, or if you fancy, some delightful baroque music with the Cavatine Association.

There's simply no chance to get bored in the summertime on the Ile d'Yeu! The difficult bit is making a choice...

In winter, the music continues

"Les Berniques en folie"

It has been several years that the organisers of Les Berniques have been livening-up the bars and cafes of the island when the crowds of summer have subsided.

This October, they'll be delivering their usual madcap show - unconventional and always entertaining!

Sporting events

The Ile d'Yeu Trail

Every year in June, running enthusiasts come together to explore the island and enjoy the scenery and the great atmosphere. On the program: three races of 13 km, 23 km and 45 km.

Nearly a thousand runners participate in the event with one hundred and fifty volunteers involved in making a success of the event.

Sports

All year round, island life moves to the rhythm of bats, balls, nets and boots, rackets, clubs and wheels! Tournaments for football, handball, volleyball and beach volleyball, with yachting regattas, triathlon events, pétanque, surfcasting fishing and even baton twirling! It's a sport lover's paradise.
